JUBA: Conclusion of Kiir-Museveni Meeting and AU Panel of Wise Session:

The high level meeting between H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit of South Sudan and H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta of Uganda has officially concluded. Following their discussions, a joint session with the African union AU Panel of Wise has commenced to address the ongoing challenges in South Sudan’s peace process.

During the meeting, President Kiir reaffirmed his commitment to fully implementing the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS), emphasizing that he does not intend to obstruct the peace process.

He highlighted that meaningful progress is hindered by the house arrest of First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny and other key opposition figures essential to the peace implementation committees.

The parties aim to establish concrete arrangements to revive the stalled peace process and facilitate the safe return of opposition members who fled Juba due to security concerns. Additionally, the AU Panel of Wise is scheduled to meet with Dr. Machar tomorrow to further evaluate the situation and explore viable solutions for advancing the peace process.
