For the Nuer, it is a painful trajectory as this marked the first time in recent memory to see members of their own community flee from Anyuak. Many Nuer may become uncomfortable with this reality in Itang town and Pulkotka village.
Though uncomfortable this may look, the Nuer choose to watch from a distant like bystanders watching others in horror who do not relate to them. These people getting kill everyday and with the houses getting burnt commit no crime rather than ethnicity identity.
The Anyuak are implementing their goal of a Gambella with out Nuer which now seems to be heading in a right track for them. It is true that Itang and Pulkotka now bears no trace of Nuer existence.
Then Tharpaam, Berberseb and Newland would be the next targets for the Anyuaks. Bereberseb could have long been gone as well if it wasn’t for the brave inhabitants in the neighbourhood who did not want the terrorist to have a say in where they choose to live.
Should Berberseb and the Newland cave in, then the new battle ground would be the entire Nuer Zone which include the woredas of Lare, Jokow, Wanthoa and Akobo. We should not fool ourselves to believe that this scenario would not happen.
There is nothing that stops evil from triumphant when good men choose to do nothing. The Nuer population and the Nuer leadership are all silent while their communities is being torn apart.
If any of us were asked five years ago that Nuer would be forced to leave Itang at gun point, the answer would have been a straight no without hesitation.
But as we have seen the evil prepared himself killing pregnant women and pateints in ambulances, their network and coordination has become so powerful that even our leaders working with them in Gambella Parliament cannot weep even when their close family members are killed by the Anyuak.
What you see in Itang is a disgrace. It is naivety combined with complacent. While you see Anyuak in the top supporting their terror against the Nuer civilians, the Nuer Leadership falsely belivev there is a goverment to work for when in Fact the goverment itself is the evil financing the Nuer deaths.
