Guen Kuich Nguen from Bil Jakoak Kebele of Itang Special Woreda was killed last night by his work collegue. Guen and seven others were working in a police station to keep the peace between the Nuer and Anyuak in the town.
While others were asleep, the killer came to Nguen and told him to get ready to relieve him since the two hourly rotation was over and it was Nguen’s turn to keep on guard the police station. . When Nguen walked to the command area where he could be handed over the gun and get informed of the matters relating to the duty, his collegue shot him dead and then fled.
There was no real motive apart from the fact that the Anyuak Police have no regard to humanity and the rule of law. Many Nuer have been killed by their Anyuak colleagues that way on duty. Law enforcement officers fom Anyuak community are known to turning guns against their work colleague of Nuer ethnic group for no reason other than the tribal conflict is destroying every bond Anyuak and Nuer used to have.
In November last year, Khat Ruey Puk was also killed in Itang while on duty. Some of Khat’s friends from the Anyuak community were not happy of what their tribal man did to Khat. They apprehended the killer and handed him over to the Federal Agencies for Persecution.
President Omot who works for Anyuak Interests ordered the release of the killer which the Federal Agencies did. Upon the release. the killer joined the Anyuak GPLM movement and attacked Makhot several times killing more people he could not have killed if he was kept in jail. But justice was served in another way by the defenders of Makhot who stayed the cause.
In 2016 G.C violence so many Nuer who were based in Jor Woreda in Anyuak Zone were all killed because of the conflict that erupted between the Nuer and Anyuak in Itang. The LiYu Haile (SPecial Force members of the Nuer were killed by their Anyuak colleagues. This has no different to last night killings. We also understand there will be another killing because killers wlk free. There is no deterrence whatsoever.
