More than five government offices and Ataarach Club, one of Gambella City’s major entertainment venues, have reportedly been burned in 04 Kebele amid ongoing clashes involving the Ethiopian Federal Police (EFP), the Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) and Anywaa armed actors.
Among the reported properties affected are the Audit Bureau, Gambella First Instance Court, Labor and Skills Bureau, and Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission Bureau, alongside Ataarach Club. The reported incidents have raised further concerns about the safety of public institutions, private property and residents as the security situation in the regional capital remains tense.
The reported burnings followed a demonstration by highlanders in Gambella City over an attack on highlanders the previous night, which reportedly left five people dead. The demonstration took place amid heightened tensions, with the subsequent burning of government offices and other properties adding to concerns about the potential for further violence and damage.
Gambella Vision is following developments and will provide updates as more reliable information becomes available.
