The meeting held on Saturday 30/06/2018 regarding the return of Nuer to Itang town remained inconclusive. The Gambella National and regional State Goverment insists on the return of Nuer employee to Itang town but without military protection.
The Deputy Mayor of the town, Ato Gatwech Ruach Kuny supports the idea of the return but suggested a better security to be implemented due to attack of Anyuak gunmen on Nuer Locals. There are 50 members of the Ethiopian National Defence Force (ENDF) stationed at Itang to provided peace ad stability but those ENDF members are based exclusively in vicinities of the Anyuak.
Gatwech told his counter part, Omot Ogat that for him and his team to return to work, these 50 members of the ENDF Officers need to provide equal protection for the Nuer and the Anyuak alike. Omot Refused
Omot himself has upto 5 ENDF personel adjacent to his house. Gatwech had none. Gatwech needed the same protection but Omot said no. “These ENDF Officers are for Anyuak only. You Nuer should come, live and work here with no federal or state protection. Not even Nuer militias because that would look likeba threat.
Gatwech did not agree to that and the meeting ended in argument between Gatwech and Omot. Authorities from Gambella returned with inconclusive outcome but to present this to the President, Alemitu who will then decide whether to use common sense and split the protection for the two communities or side rule on a an evil sense that Nuer do not need nothing.
Aemitu has a larger hand in Gambella Violence particulalrly in Itang. She is not longer a leader for the people of Gambella buta leader for the Anyuaks given her psotion on Itang. In Makot Kebele, she demanded that the inhabitants of the Nuer Kebele do not take their cattle to the river because it is an Anyuak river. She bribed the ENDF to fight the Nuer if they access water for their cattele.
That is why the Gambella Vilion Believes she is in support of all cancer decisions that undermine Nuer Rights in Gambella particulalry in Itang. Now the Nuer in Makot have to weigh up what to do next whether to let their cattle die due to lack of water or fight the New Anyuak Army, the ENDF over the water for their livelihood.
In any of the case, Nuer employee should never go to Itang without ENDF protection. If they do want to go, Alemitu would need to authorise Liyu Haile (Special Force) of Nuer originto protect their people which Gambella vision Believe she would never do.
Imagine you were Dr Gatluak, what would you tell Alemitu? If she does play fair game, my phone would ring in Dr Abiy’s desk. This is what the Nuer Politicians are missing. Missing so many oppprtunities that would keep this mob out of leadership.
Gambella is better than this. Laughable isn’t it fighting for who will protect me. If you have stronger laws in place, nobody would dare murdering some one else.
