A Minivan travelling to Gambella from Lare wereda crashed in  an area locally termed as “Thow in Diany” near Tharpaam. The course of the crash is not yet known as Police is yet to verify. But earlier reports from people at the scene suggest as high as 17 people may have lost their lives.

If this figure is confirmed, this would be one of the highest tragedy ever hit the region after 1994 when a bus travelling to Gore from Addis Ababa veeered off the valley killing all 66 passengers including 25 people who are from the indigenous community of Gambella.
