Mrs Alemitu is now proving herself as a mother of Gambella. This is because since taking office, she vouches that peace, and tranquillity
is very important for Gambella to develop like other states.
This is true especially if you look at the development of other regions of the country, it is fair to say that Gambella ranks last. Many leaders of different times have had elusive dreams about development. This can be seen in the times of Omot Obang and Gatluak tut but that had since slipped away.
Developmental wise, Gambella is not better than some regions of Amhara and Oromia. Metu and Jimma of Oromia for example which are zones have far better hospitals, better roads and better clean drinking water. Omot Obang and Gatluak Tut tried their best for Gambella to catch up with other regions, but violence is always a problem. People especially Nuer and Anyuak focus has always been personal safety than development in times of violence.
The time of Omot Ojulu and Thankuey witnessed nothing but death, destruction and theft. The people of gambella hope that Alemitu’s reign is somewhat different to the reigns of her predecessors.
