The violence in Gambella continues to raise serious humanitarian and security concerns. A South Sudanese Nuer refugee who was shot during an attack yesterday has died from his injuries at Fugnido Health Centre. Family members and relatives had previously expressed concern over his condition, citing the severity of the wounds he sustained.
According to local reports, the attack appeared to have been organised and coordinated. Concerns have also been raised regarding the response of the Gambella National Regional State authorities, with critics alleging that security measures have been insufficient to prevent recurring violence against Nuer civilians.
Incidents of violence have reportedly occurred in refugee camps housing South Sudanese Nuer refugees, as well as in Gambella City and along the roads linking Gambella town with the Nuer Zone. Community members and observers continue to call for stronger protection measures and accountability for those responsible for the attacks.
