Two Nuer individuals were shot and injured today in front of Ethiopian Telecom. The victims were a pregnant woman and a young man. The man’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
However, the woman is reported to be in serious condition. After she was rushed to the hospital, witnesses told Gambella Vision that she was shot twice in the chest and once in the arm. As a result, she also sustained a fracture to her arm.
There is no information yet about the condition of the unborn child or whether she was shot in the abdomen.
The attackers are believed to be from the Anyuak ethnic group. After the incident, they reportedly fled on foot toward 04 Kebele, an area known as an Anyuak neighborhood.
This incident reflects the ongoing violence affecting the Nuer community in Gambella, where reported deaths have been rising significantly. Critics argue that the Gambella National and Regional Government has not taken sufficient action to stop the violence.
