Imagine a system governed by Western standards of law, accountability, and technology where anyone seeking employment in law enforcement, public office, or any role involving public trust must first pass a rigorous police and background check.
Under such a system, very few of t
hose currently holding power from the Anyuak community in Gambella would remain in their positions.
This is the standard the next leadership must enforce. There must be zero tolerance for the recycling of criminals within state institutions.
Anyone found to have participated in killings, ethnic violence, or serious human rights abuses must be permanently removed from public service and spend the rest of their lives in prison.
Justice must be certain and severe enough to deter others.
In Gambella, particularly within the Anyuak community, perpetrators of violence are treated as if they are untouchable moved from one government department to another like items in a recycling bin. This is not governance; it is state-sanctioned impunity.
This practice must end completely and without exception.
