Gambella Vision has learned that the attacks on vehicles on Tuesday, 9th December 2025 was executed by Abol Police Chief. The name of the suspect is OPar, Surname to be supplied soon. The attack claimed the lives of 4 people with 6 or more injuries.
Opar is an Anyuak from Pinyngiew area. Himself and the survivor who is also a police officer knew each other very well as they met each other through work on many occasions in the Gambella Police Force.
Opar was standing at the side of the road with a group of police officers from the Anyuak ethnic group. As the vehicles were approaching toward them, they saw a large crowd of police officers.
The survivor was not sure what the police gathering was all about in the forest just few kilometres after passing through the Abol town.
The survivor was curious but recognised Opar standing on the side of the road and asked him if everything was okay. He replied, ‘everything is fine’.
But before the vehicle could just move a bit further from where Opar was, it came under a hell of gun fire from multiple directions from the side of the road.
The driver was shot and lost control causing the vehicle to veer off the road and hit a tree. The other vehicle which was following the police pickup also came under attack and lost control as well. Three passengers were instantly killed including an experienced police officer.
Fortunately for the few remaining survivors, two police officers were unscathed. They loaded their firearms and acted in self-defence to protect themselves and the wounded including some survivors who were also not injured.
Opar and his group were determined to finish off killing everyone.
But God did not call everyone home on that day from those vehicles. The survivor police officers were brave enough to maintain positions and fought for 40 minutes while calling families and colleagues up for help.
As helped arrived, Opar and his group continued firing upon the passengers and the federal forces who came for rescue.
The federal officers returned fire and shot dead one of Opar’s men and wounded another, a police officer from Anyuak ethnic group firing from a Bajaj.
The survivor reported this incident to Gambella Police Department explaining that Opar was among the group of police officers who killed 3 people with another one which died yesterday in Metu Hospital making the death toll from that incident to 4.
The Gambella Police Department under the Police Commission’s directive neither investigate nor apprehend Opar and his group.
This is an accurate version, and the survivor know so well who the killers were. But Alemitu and Gatluak are now either coward or are complicit in crimes being committed in the region.
The Tuesday attack is not like something carried out by an Anyuaks from kebeles or what they call bandits from the bushes. It is not also like an Anyuak who is just a simple police Officers in the Gambella Police Force doing theis heinous crime.
He is an Anyuak with an oath to serve the Gambella People from harm such as what he conducted himself.
This is a message to the Nuer in general that if the police officers can just fired upon an ambulances and kill patients or his fellow officers with the order from a senior officer and Alemitu would be quiet about it, then surely the Anyuak are right to say “Nuer a bolt” if you would remain muted and wait till another killing is conducted may be by Opar or someone in his liking from the Anyuak community who are in the police Force.
