One Nuer man was killed and another seriously injured in a deadly attack that took place in Gambella c
ity about an hour ago, near the Grand Hotel area.
According to survivor, they [two men] had gone into town to buy basic items, believing that calm had finally returned after nearly two months of unrest in the region.
The area they entered is mostly inhabited by the Anyuak community, but the two men reportedly felt safe enough to move freely, trusting that the recent talk of peace was real.
Sadly, that hope did not last long. While they were shopping, armed Anyuak attackers confronted them and carried out a brutal assault. One of the men was killed on the spot, targeted only because of their ethnic identity.
The second man managed to escape, but not before suffering injuries. This shocking incident has once again shaken the fragile sense of peace in Gambella. Tension is now high across the city, with many residents fearing that ethnic violence may erupt again.
People are worried that this killing could trigger retaliation and drag the region back into a cycle of bloodshed, just when communities were beginning to hope for stability.
Residents are calling on authorities to act quickly and decisively to prevent further violence, protect civilians, and restore trust among communities.
Without urgent intervention and genuine efforts toward reconciliation, many fear that Gambella may once again slide deeper into ethnic conflict.
