brief but alarming incident unfolded this evening in Berbereseb, where armed gunmen believed to be Anywaa reportedly attempted to attack members of the Nuer community, according to firsthand information obtained by Gambella Vision.
A local source who spoke to Gambella Vision stated that the attackers approached the community with the apparent intention of carrying out an assault.
However, upon reaching the outskirts of the area, the gunmen encountered groups of Nuer youth and men who had organized themselves to guard their families after hearing earlier suspicions of possible threats.
According to the source, the armed individuals opened fire but quickly fled once they realized community members were already mobilized and positioned around the area. The exchange was brief, and the attackers did not advance further into Berbereseb.
The source confirmed that no deaths or injuries were reported during the incident. Community members remain on high alert as local residents call for strengthened security measures to prevent future attempts.
Authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the attack.
