Gambella is the smallest region in population and size of the landmass but remained one of the hotspots for violence in Ethiopia. This violence that takes so many innocent lives with no capacity to bring it down.
The Prime Minister must be supported with the information he needs to tackle the Gambella issue once and for all. Looking at the Gambella crisis from the counter insurgency point of view, it has all the hallmark of rebellion and that is what the Anyuaks are doing.
This gotten worse under the reign of former Governor Omot Ojulu who is now the advisor to the ministry for peace in federal goverment. The Anyuak resorted to insurgency style tactics carrying a campaign of terror killing babies, women and children in public buses and hide in the community.
Because of the wider support from the Anyuak elites, none of these killers were ever brought to justice. As that attacking public transport was not enough for them, the the Anyuak militias and Police Officers carried attacks on Nuer villages killing scores of people.
None of this information ever got to the office of the Prime Minister. The Only death which the Prime Minister receive in Gambella is when the Nuer retaliates as the Anyuak elite stand on the way of justice himdering the apprehension of criminals.
Of course people take matters to their hands and that is what you see with the Gambella Situation. The Anyuaks are demanding Nuer to live Ethiopia which itself is the violation of the Ethiopian Constitution.
Article 33 of the Ethiopian Constitution Proclaim Rights of Nationality. “No Ethiopian national shall be deprived of his or her Ethiopian nationality against his or her will”
Knowing that it is wrong and against the constitution, the Anyuak elites are not saying that publicly to the office of the Prime Minister. What they are doing on the ground is to fund these arm insurgency movements to drive the Nuer from three areas they have identified.
The Nuer are resisting these pressure from the Anyuak and they the locals living in those areas who sacrifices their lives dying every day.
The whole Anyuak population can be a size of a football stadium in Europe. It does not need federal intervention to solve this crisis. A state can do that in one day but when the state mingles with arm insurgents is where the problem lies.
These child killers have coffee or tea with the Anyuak elites in the government but later on go and attack public busses regardless of who might be in the bus or lost of property.
A recent example was the attack on Ambulance and a Double Pick Up which resulted in the lost of four lives and six injuries.
The Regional President Refused to arrest the Abol Police Officer, Azach Bare Agua indicating that the attack of the Ambulance was part of Anyuak Quest for grievances.
With those in power protecting criminals, only idiots would think the region won’t get engulf in flames. There is unconfirmed report that justice was delivered to Azach Bare by the Nuer warriors. Sadly, this is what Alemitu wanted.
Alemitu has so much power in Gambella which the Prime Minister of Ethiopia does not even have. I never seen the Prime Miniter of Ethiopia or heard about him staying in the way of justice or releasing a convicted murderer.
His Power is to pardon political opponents for the good of the country. That is what I know and that is allowed in every country. But to arrest the victims or release the murders is the new low in Gambella justice system controlled by the Anyuak.
If the Prime Minister will not remove this toxic government and install Nuer, then Gambella will always be in chaos. Alemitu will never bring Security. Not only that she fail to go after the bad guys like the Late President Omot Obang did, but she is releasing known murderers who killed significant figures from Nuer ethnic group.
One of this killing is of the University lecturer, Duoth Chot Nen, who was killed two weeks after being a President. That did not This recent violence could have been avoided if she stand firm upholding the rule of law.
Alemitu is coward. These violent criminals from Anyuak community told to leave them free or they will kill her. She understands that as the Anyuak don’t get timid of killing their own leaders when they are at odd politically.
They killed Gambella First President, Agua Alemu and had several assassinations attempts on late President Omot Obang’s life. But Alemitu refused to be another statistic. In this case, she should resign but more importantly, the region should be ruled by Nuer or Federal Government so that criminals whose hands got Gambella Blood on them including Omot OJulu won’t have a safe haven such as what they are enjoying today.
