The conflict between the Nuer and Anyuak communities in Gambella region, Ethiopia, is a complex and longstanding issue that has been ongoing since the early 1990s.  It is a result of various factors, including historical grievances, land disputes, and competition over resources. The conflict has resulted in the displacement of thousands of people and has caused significant harm to both communities.

The Ethiopian government has been working to resolve the conflict through a variety of measures, including peacebuilding efforts, security sector reform, and dialogue between community leaders.  In recent years, there have been some positive developments in the conflict, including the signing of a peace agreement between the two communities in 2018 and the deployment of peacekeeping forces to the region.

However, the conflict remains far from resolved, and there is still much work to be done to ensure lasting peace and stability in the Gambella region. The government will need to continue to invest in peacebuilding efforts and work to address the underlying causes of the conflict to achieve lasting peace.

To achieve a sustainable peace in the Gambella region, a comprehensive approach is needed that addresses the underlying causes of the conflict, provides opportunities for dialogue and reconciliation, and ensures that all parties have access to basic resources and services.

This may involve a combination of political, economic, and social measures, such as establishing a permanent ceasefire, demilitarizing the region, providing education and healthcare, and promoting livelihood opportunities.

In addition, it is important to involve all stakeholders in the peacebuilding process, including women and youth, and to ensure that their voices and perspectives are considered. This may involve the creation of local peace committees or the establishment of community-based conflict resolution mechanisms.

Ultimately, lasting peace in the Gambella region will require sustained commitment from all parties involved and the support and engagement of the national and international community. In conclusion, the attack on the bus in Gambella region was indeed carried out by the Anyuak armed group. The incident occurred on May 2, 2021, and has continued until now, resulting in the deaths of several people.

The Anyuak armed group is a rebel group operating in the Gambella region of Ethiopia. They were engaged in a conflict with the Ethiopian government over a range of issues last couple’s years including the rights of the Anyuak people and the control of resources in the region.

The attack on the bus was a brutal and senseless act of violence that left many people of Nuer dead and injured.

The Gambella president Ato Omot Ujulo has not actually condemned the attack nor vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice.
